Progressing Cavity Pumps have been working for years in extreme conditions in one of the largest oilfields in Africa

Sudan produces around 500,000 barrels of crude oil every day, about 200,000 of which come from the fields in the Melut Basin in the south of the country. Before it can be used or exported, the mixture of oil, water, gas and sand which has been pumped out of the desert soil must however first be transported from the remote sources over large distances to the processing site. Multiphase pumps made by NETZSCH Pumpen & Systeme GmbH from Waldkraiburg in Germany are being used to do this. These progressing cavity pumps are specially designed for changes in the consistency of the medium and a high solid content, so that they provide reliable pumping performances over long periods of time, without any failures or high levels of wear. Since temperatures of up to 50°C are reached in the Melut Basin and sandstorms and downpours alternate through the year, the pumps used there are exposed to an extraordinary strain, which must be catered for when the pumps are designed.

Lower maintenance costs at Knauf Bauprodukte Iphofen:

One of the products which the building materials manufacturer Knauf makes in Iphofen is a concrete primer. What is intended to ensure that plaster evenly bonds onto smooth walls in construction does however create problems when filling: the plaster primer contains dispersion and has a mineral solid content of around 60 percent, which has an effect like emery paper in the rotary lobe pump feeding the filling station. In April 2012 Knauf implemented the newly developed TORNADO® T2 of NETZSCH Pumpen & Systeme GmbH from Waldkraiburg. Since then the pumps operates very successfully with a long service life.

NETZSCH Pumps improve efficiency and reduce costs for Acid Mine Water Drainage

The Acid Mine Water Drainage Scheme is a project to dewater abandoned gold mines in the Johannesburg Area. Since the mid-19th century, gold mines started moving and followed the gold vein. Many of the original mine shafts near Grootvlei became abandoned and over the years filled with acidic mine water. Persistent rain and raising groundwater caused steadily raising water levels in tunnels and shafts. This has serious implications for the Johannesburg area, because the water contains dissolved heavy metals and sulphur. On an earlier phase of the scheme peristaltic pumps were installed for lime slurry dosing which is used to neutralize the acidic water. However, these pumps were expensive to maintain and had a high power consumption.

NETZSCH Pumps & Systems does the triple

The NETZSCH Pumps & Systems GmbH in Waldkraiburg were granted the three certificates in accordance with OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 by the SGS International Certification Services beginning of March this year. This success has been mainly achieved by the department "Integrated Quality Systems". Therefore the requirements of the internationally recognised DIN EN ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 management standards were met, jointly certified and merged with the existing DIN EN ISO 9001-compliant system.

Specially for working in the residential area: Mobile rotary lobe pump supplies wastewater without interruption and quietly

For the majority of people, the tolerance level for noise is approximately 100 decibels (dB). The approximate level for a pneumatic drill. Damage to the ears can occur at 85 dB. However, noises in conjunction with construction and servicing tasks cannot always be prevented – in particular in residential areas, this is a big problem. Therefore, one of the largest wastewater companies in Germany had a special bypass system developed for its pumping stations which only generates a maximum of 52 dB. The unit is also used for channel maintenance as a bypass, the diversion of waste water during the revision of the channel. The TORNADO® rotary lobe pump from NETZSCH Pumpen & Systeme GmbH used, together with the diesel engine, has been installed on a trailer in order to ensure flexible transportation to the locations of use. In addition, multiple safety components also ensure continuous operation of uninterrupted delivery.
